HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH MISSION STATEMENT

Dedicated to knowing Christ and making Christ known to others.

What is LCMS?

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) is a mission-oriented, Bible-based, confessional Christian denomination headquartered in St. Louis, Mo., grounded in Martin Luther's recovery of the biblically correct understanding of the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, namely that salvation is an entirely free gift of grace alone with its benefits accruing solely to those who trust in its promise with faith. The LCMS is a conservative denomination and is the second largest Lutheran body in the United States.

The official mission of the LCMS is:

“In grateful response to God’s grace and empowered by the Holy Spirit through Word and Sacraments, the mission of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is vigorously to make known the love of Christ by word and deed within our churches, communities and the world.”

Our Mission

Our Mission at Hope is to proclaim God's Law and Gospel faithfully according to His holy, inerrant Word to all people so that they may be led to confess Jesus as their Savior by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We at Hope also seek to strengthen each member and one another in the Christian faith and encourage each other in Christian living through the Gospel in Word and Sacraments.

We are dedicated to knowing Jesus Christ and making him known to others!

About the Bible:

We believe, teach, and confess that the prophetic and apostolic writings of the Old and New Testaments are the only rule and norm according to which all doctrines and teachers alike must be appraised and judged, as it is written in Ps. 119:105, “Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” And St. Paul says in Gal. 1:8, “Even if an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we preached to you, let him be accursed.”  Every person, even those who claim no religion, have some source of ultimate authority.  Ours is the Bible.  Someone usually asks then how we can appeal to the Bible as our final authority when there are so many interpretations of it.  Our answer is that the more important something is, the more interpretations will arise around it; that should not surprise us:  But rather than throw up our hands as if a plurality of interpretations implies an impossibility of determining which is correct, we confidently point toward another collection of important historic writings.  The Book of Concord contains the correct understanding of scriptures as it has been confessed by Lutherans for nearly 500 years.  http://bookofconcord.org/ For more please read What We Believe by clicking on these two links.

About Communion:

We believe that the Lord's Supper is the true body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in, with, and under the bread and wine. Partaking of this meal is not just a symbolic act but the actual eating and drinking of the body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. For this reason and because of the warnings associated with this along with the unity that is confessed by partaking of this meal here, we practice closed communion in accordance with the teachings of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
